Were you unable to receive a high school diploma due to not passing a section of the High School Graduation Test ?

If so, a new GA Law is for you!!

 

On March 30, 2015, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law changes affecting students who did not pass a section of the Basic Skills Test, Georgia High School Graduation Test and/or Georgia High School Writing Test. An individual no longer enrolled in a Georgia public school and who previously failed to receive a high school diploma in this state or was denied graduation solely for failing to achieve a passing score on one or more portions of the Georgia High School Graduation Tests or its predecessor or the Georgia High School Writing Test or its predecessor may petition the local board of education in which he or she was last enrolled to determine the Student’s eligibility to receive a high school diploma pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 20-2-281.1  based on the graduation requirements in effect when the Student first entered ninth grade.

A petition form can be submitted via mail or in person. Copies of the form are available on the Heard County School System website at www.heard.k12.ga.us or can be picked up in person at the Central Office in Franklin. To petition for a diploma, individuals should submit the completed and signed , O.C.G.A. § 20-2-281.1 PETITION FORM by mail to: Marianne Cole, Heard County School System, PO Box 1330 Franklin, GA 30217, OR  in person at  the Heard County School System Central Office located at 131 East Court Square in Franklin. If submitting a petition by mail, include a scanned/copied image of your government issued photo identification. Incomplete information may delay processing. Anyone with questions can call Marianne Cole, Assistant Superintendent, at 706-675-3320. There is no deadline by which petitions must be submitted.
